An affiliate of Lomonosov Moscow State University in Ulyanovsk, based on the traditions of classical education, was established by a resolution of the USSR Government in February 1988. In 1996, Ulyanovsk affiliate of MSU was reorganized into Ulyanovsk State University (USU).
At present USU is one of the largest higher educational institutions in the Volga region, which comprises 6 institutes, 7 independent faculties, 2 affiliates, 6 learning centers.
The university enrolls about 15 thousand students, among them almost 200 foreign citizens from Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America.
Being a modern classical university, USU boasts a wealth of study programs in both sciences and humanities, a highly-skilled teaching staff, up-to-date educational technologies, significant achievements in fundamental research and a strong position in the international educational and scholarly communities.
USU offers a wide range of study options: full and part time, external, further and distance education programs on undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels. One may choose from 77 majors, 76 post-graduate, 17 medical internship and 37 medical residency programs. In addition, USU provides the opportunity of enrolling in dual degree programs.
The university has since its inception drawn on the expertise of highly qualified faculty from Moscow State University and other leading institutions of Russia and the CIS. Currently USU employs 1254 faculty members, including 138 Doctorate and 623 Candidate of Science degree holders.
USU students have access to free-of-charge university library services, actively participate in cultural events and sports competitions held at university and city venues, enjoy free club membership at the university sports center and have a chance to improve their health at the university holiday camp, which is located in a pine forest on the picturesque bank of the Volga river.
The university enjoys close ties with higher educational institutions, research centers and foundations from all over the world. Our unique academic units – Russian-American and Russian-German faculties – provide the opportunity to earn a degree from a foreign partner institution, in addition to the Russian diploma of higher education awarded by USU.
